“So, what’s the deal?” I asked as I strode over to join the group milling around outside the shed.

Wyatt, Benny, Patrick, and his family, were all standing there, looking uneasy as they spoke in hushed tones.

“The woman you brought back, she smelled like our old Pack, caught a whiff when I came over here,” Crystal spoke up, her soft brown eyes unsettled. Ron, her mate and Patrick’s father, stood behind her protectively, looking as fierce as Patrick and Jacob, who stood on either side of her.

“Not just that, the guy in there, he’s from my old Pack,” Benny growled, his eyes flashing golden.

“Where’s Rachel and Lacey?” I found myself asking as the information registered.

“They’re staying with Sophie and Zack,” Patrick answered as he folded his arms.

“So, what are we thinking?” I pressed, the chill of the night air creeping up my spine. I’d left the throw on the couch, not bothering to hunt down a shirt. We were all wolves here.

“Well, Matthew, the guy in there, has come clean a bit. He’s young, clearly been manipulated and has his mind a bit twisted. From my understanding, some of my old Pack and their old Pack,” Benny nodded at Patrick and his family, “have teamed up to come after us all. Payback for everything they believe we’ve caused them, targeting the entire Pack.”

“And they went after Lorelei?” The words came out sharper and darker than I’d planned, and my Pack brothers gave me understanding looks. They already knew the Call was likely to have happened with her after the results with the other women.

“I don’t believe she was the intended target. Using a cop to stop traffic, they were likely wanting to pick us off, one by one, or hope they got those they were after mainly,” Wyatt explained. “It’s possible the cop was even a wolf, masking his scent. We’ll see if Matthew can verify that.”

“I’ll make him tell us everything,” Benny muttered, and I glanced down at his fists, noting the blood on them. He was definitely accessing a darker side of himself for this.

A side we all had within us, even if we wanted to pretend we didn’t.

Our Pack was at stake here, under threat.

“What do we do?” I asked as I glanced back at the lodge.

I hated that Lorelei had been caught up in all of this. This was supposed to be a fun experience, me courting a match, and now the Calling had happened along with this fuckery, and everything was a mess.

“I’m going to alert the North Mountain Pack. We may be stronger now that we’re mated, but the mates are human,” Wyatt stated. “Benny, find out about the cop. Patrick, get your family into the main lodge. Everyone is on high alert. We need to get this sorted. I’m going to try to get in touch with the Alpha Wolf Pack as well.”

I clenched my jaw at that. So it was dire enough that our Alpha wanted to go right to the top.

That didn’t sit easy with me at all.
